Day 8: National Geographic Summit Trip

26 Mar

Today started out early and VERY cold.  We went back to Open City for breakfast.  Then we jumped in a bus that took us to Rock Creek Park where we were going to pick up trash along the creek.  After donning on special gloves and grabbing a blue bag for recycling and a white bag for everything else, we headed down the path.  The area was very clean, and I thought that there wouldn’t be any trash to pick up, which is good, right?  After about 2 hours, we compiled all of our trash into a couple of bags.  We couldn’t believe how much there was.  We found that there was lots of plastic bottles and Styrofoam.

Then we headed to The Mall at Georgetown where we had lunch and shopped until it was time for dinner.  The kids were in heaven (and so was I).

Then we went back to the hotel for some packing and the closing ceremonies. The kids all told us their favorite part of the trip, and Patrick and Maggie (our leaders) gave each kid an award.

We are being picked up tomorrow morning at 3:30 in the morning, so this is my last blog entry.  It has been a great trip, but I cannot wait to get home and hug my family.  Here are some photos from the last day of the trip.
